tips for heat treatment of A312 S31050

tips for heat treatment of A312 S31050

(OP)
Good morning to all, I'm abramb.

About heat treatment of ASTM A312 S31050, where can I find more information about heat treatment parameters for this material?
Do you have any experience about this material?

Thanks in advance,
A.

RE: tips for heat treatment of A312 S31050

(note: 310MoLN)  This alloy needs to be handled like a 6%Mo in order to get the best performance.
What is the thermo-mechanical history of the pieces that you will be heat treating?  Formed? welded?
If welded you will need high temps and long hold times to get good homogenization.  Reasonably fast cooling also, but this isn't hard with tubulars.
I would look to use temps of 2050F-2100F and hold times of at least 10 min at temp followed with a forced cooling.

Thank you EdStainless for you answer.

The source material is a forged ingot, then we can have two different thermo-mechanical histories:

1. tubular products: machining, heat treatment, final machining
2. other products: hot forming, heat treatment, final machining

just another question about hold times:
you mean 10 min total, is it not depending by the wall thickness of the piece?
What about setting the hold time 2 min for each mm of WT, keeping 10 min minimum for small WT? Would it be ok?
