specs for foundation on fat clay

specs for foundation on fat clay

(OP)
I am looking for any DOT spec in Tennessee for a foundation on fat clay...on a previous job in Mississippi the DOT spec called for No. 610 crushed limestone compacted.

Is there anything in TN like this?  Or could I be pointed to a ASTM spec?

Note:  I am not a civil engineer, I am electrical but trying to research this for someone else.

Thanks.

RE: specs for foundation on fat clay

Check state building code.

I also should have also added this is for a substation transformer pad.

RE: specs for foundation on fat clay

The better way is to consult a geotech who knows the local.

RE: specs for foundation on fat clay

google TNDOT base specifications........

I second the geo-consult.....fat clay is many things to many people. If I had fat clay where a foundation (slab) was planned...I would either treat with lime and or undercut then replace with suitable material...then proceed with base material ...if necessary.

RE: specs for foundation on fat clay

Hire a local geotechnical engineer.
