Comparing Brass and Duplex

Comparing Brass and Duplex

Comparing Brass and Duplex

(OP)
Hi all
I have a question !
I want to know about corrosion resistance of naval and admiralty brass   and   Duplex materials.
can someone compare those two group?
I know that Temp. and media is important for corrosion  ,but i want to compare them roughly!
thank you.

RE: Comparing Brass and Duplex

What is the corrodant in question?  Duplex materials usually are vastly superior to the brass and copper materials in most of the property categories considered.

Our media are(H2,H2O,H2S,HC,N2)
   and       (H2,N2)

RE: Comparing Brass and Duplex

brass and duplex are "comparable" only if you condiser their ressitance and suitability in seawater and water containing chlorides. They are two different materials with different mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. copper alloy have limits in fluid velocities due to erosion issue.
In your case, fluid with H2S, i'll select duplex, even if duplex has limits in terms of H2S partial pressure.

as rmw said you need to be more specific on operating conditioons and type of service.

RE: Comparing Brass and Duplex

Not only do these two alloys (or in the case of duplex SS, a group of alloys) have very different corrosion resistance they have very different physical and mechanical properties.
You need to step back and start with some basic information and learn about these types of alloys.

Thanks all
Our licensor in his material selection approved both Brass(Naval and Admiralty for some cases) and also Approved Duplex material instead them.
We want to buy those equipment(Shell and tube heat exchangers)and need some information to sellect Duplex or Brass base material.
