Patterns In Assemblies

Patterns In Assemblies

Patterns In Assemblies

(OP)
Hey there, fairly new to Solid Edge, so this may seem like a fairly simple question to those who are proficient... apologies.

While in an assembly, I have created a pattern of identical parts from one fully defined part to be mated with another part.

..... i.e. one bolt used to make a pattern of 4 bolts to fill every hole in a 4 bolt flange....

Again, I fully defined the location and relationships of the original "bolt" I copied in the pattern, but when I change the relationship of the original part, all other parts in the pattern do not move with the original.

In other words, if my original bolt was spaced 3" from the flange, the pattern of bolts created is also spaced 3" from the flange... if the original bolt is moved to 6" from the flange, all of the other bolts stay at 3"?

Am I missing something, is there a way to bind all of the parts in a pattern to the original part so they all move as one?

Thanks in advance for any help!

RE: Patterns In Assemblies

Hi Brentheram

The patterned bolts should stay relative to the original bolt. So they should be at 6" too.

I don't know where the problem is, but make sure you activate all your parts and use the "update all relationship" button to update the position of the parts. If this doesn't solve the problem then you can edit the definition of the pattern and see what happens.

I hope this helps.

RE: Patterns In Assemblies

Sorry no answer here also. I find when this happens it either because a relationship failed or it just didn't decide to update all links.

What Version are you on???

Solid Edge V20

RE: Patterns In Assemblies

What version of SE? - there are/have been problems with patterning in latest version.
If it's V20 or earlier click on the pattern feature in Edgebar and then Edit Definition. Sometimes this will force the update, or you may just have to re-define the pattern again.

Thanks folks, figured it out.

For some reason it was not binding all of the pattern elements together? I removed and replaced the pattern from scratch, works fine now.

Thanks for the help, I'll probably be back for more at some point.
