Sketched reference point in drawing

Sketched reference point in drawing

I was asked this question today of how you go about using a sketched referenced point for dimensioning in a drawing. Using 07 sp4 i think). I feel as though i should know this question but my mind is a blank. Thank

RE: Sketched reference point in drawing

Do you mean a Virtual Sharp?

Select the two converging lines, then select the Point tool.

RE: Sketched reference point in drawing

(OP)
No i got the virtual sharp. If when you are sketching you create a reference point (under the reference geometry menu) then want to use that as an endpoint for the creation of a dimension. Thanks

RE: Sketched reference point in drawing

If you're sketching, why not simply use a sketch point?

RE: Sketched reference point in drawing

Place the point, constrain it, dimension to it.  What could be the problem?

RE: Sketched reference point in drawing

I don't believe a Reference Point can be created in a 2D drawing. It is intended for use in a 3D model to denote specific geometric points. (Arc Centre, Centre of Face, etc)

CorBlimeyLimey you are correct. 3D reference point put at the center of a part in an assembly and wants to be used as a dimensional reference in a particular view of the drawing. Thats what i get for thinking faster than i can type.

RE: Sketched reference point in drawing

That seems to be a limitation of SW. Although the Ref Points can be placed and used in the 3D model, and can be viewed in a 2D drawing, it appears they cannot be selected in the drawing for any useful purpose.
