nitriding procedure

nitriding procedure

(OP)
Hello

I am trying to find a process procedure with depth of nitride and case Rc for nitriding steel (various kinds). I've Googled but haven't found the right kind of procdure. We wish to use this in spec-ing nitriding for our products as well as QA and testing of the received parts.

I have also searched on this site and have found info that does help but I was hoping to find an actual procedure/spec to call out on my drawings and to pass on to my vendors.

thank you for your help.

I have just been told that we are specifically looking a 4140 material to be spec-ed for the nitriding.

Thanks

RE: nitriding procedure

MIL-STD-1876A NITRIDING, GASEOUS ATMOSPHERE PROCESSING FOR
SAE-AMS2755  Salt Bath , Molten, NITRIDING
SAE-AMS2759/6 STEEL, LOW-ALLOY PARTS, GAS NITRIDING AND HEAT TREATMENT OF

Although some of them are inactive or cancled for new aeorospace and military use you can come to agreement with the heat treatment house that you want the nitriding process ro meet the spec just give it your name.
