trimming lines
trimming lines
(OP)
Is anyone else having troubles when trimming lines in NX6?
this is starting to get anoying as it will lock up the session and your done. A quick exit and return seems to fix for a short time.

I have not been able to reproduce it yet.
RE: trimming lines
cowski - it does happen more often when trimming lines to arcs.

RE: trimming lines
Many NC programmers still use 2d curved for most toolpath boundary type geometry. I know it's been beat into our heads to use sketcher for everything but... quick and dirty works. I expect in the not too distant future though, explicit 2d curves will be a thing of the past. Heck it's just this year I've decided to stick with the newer hole creation (position sketch based) rather than the Pre-NX5 hole function. : )

RE: trimming lines
I don't think explict 2D curves will ever be done away with and I wouldn't welcome it. There are so many things that you can do with geometry that would be limited by using 2D sketches that I'm not seeing the demise of curves any time soon.
Anyone ignorant enough to beat the use of sketcher into you probably isn't worth listening to in my book. The beauty of NX is contained within its flexibility. There's a tool of everything and sometimes there are several. Many times one is preferable to another, but to cut yourself off from the ability to use any of them effectively is like buying a rifle and taking away the bullets because you argue that you can fix a bayonet to the end of it.
I have a bit of experience in machining and know what you mean by boundary geometry or even using drive curves where the explicit centreline of the cutter is easier to describe than the cut geometry. Many people prefer such methods for lettering or for making certain types of cams.
What I think we're taking to may be conversations at cross purposes then. I'm simply observing that the intuitive "quick trim" and "quick extend" using the sketcher in later versions of NX are kind of quick and easy compared with the trim and divide curves dialogs that we're stuck with when working in model space. My suggestion then would be to improve the tools for working with curves in model space rather than defer to the sketcher for everything.
On the other hand the reverse applies and one could rightly ask why not ensure that a system that supports useful functionality with sketches shouldn't be used to best advantage where machining is concerned. If there's any reason why you can't sketch a boundary or project the sketch curves for use in making cutter paths then likewise you ought to be able to request that this is improved in upcoming versions of NX.

The NX 6.0.3.6 MR is scheduled for June.
The MP2 package for NX 6.0.2.8 has been available for a couple of weeks now for download from the GTAC support site.
