Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

(OP)
Ill try and describe this as best as I can.. If you look at the jpeg, Im trying to draw some pipe, and some of them are on 45 degree angles. On the left, I have a circle, and Im trying to rotate the circle 45 degrees so I can draw a pipe coming off that vertitcally at a 45. But when I rotate the circle 45 degrees, it doesnt do it properly.

Is there a way I can rotate the orgins easily so I can make 45 degree lines easier, or correctly draw circles at 45 degree angles?

Thanks

I am not entirely clear on what you are trying to accomplish.    Have you tried creating new planes at the proper orientation?   Then create your sketches on those planes.

Im new to Solidworks in every sense of the word, so Im not even sure how to create new planes at different origins. Or what that even does...

Basically, I have that pipe going off at a 45 degree angle, and Im trying to create another pipe going up vertically off that at a 45 as well. But when I rotate the circle 45 degrees, it does it at a weird angle.

RE: Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

cp3 ... The first thing you need to do is work through the tutorials offered in the SW Help section.

Did you create the rest of the model? If you did, I don't understand how without having an understanding of planes.

Yea I did the rest of it.. And I have gone thru alot of the tutorials, this is just something that I need to get done right away and Im having a hard time with it.

Embarrassingly enough, to create the 45 degree angles, I just drew a line up 5 and over 5 and then connected it to make a 45 degree angle.

And obviously, Im sure theres a much easier way to do it.

Well, if it takes too long to explain how to create a plane, could you tell me which tutorial would be best in explaining what Im trying to do? And again, thanks for your help.

RE: Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

There are several options for creating planes.

Go to Help > SolidWorks Help > Index > planes and follow all the associated links to get more details.

RE: Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

Here's something quick I worked up... bout to leave work don't have much time left. But in the feature manager look for Reference Geometry pulldown to create both axis and plane features...

Take a look at the jpeg for examples... sorry if it's shrunk down too much. I'm sure the others can help guide you as well as the help file that CBL referenced.

RE: Rotating problems.. (45 angle)

Draw the centerline of the pipe using 2D and/or 3D sketches.  From there, you can construct planes and axes and profile sketches as needed.
