Hollow CMU through bolt capacity

Hollow CMU through bolt capacity

(OP)
How do you calculate (or lookup) the shear capacity of a bolt through both faces of a hollow (ungrouted) 8" CMU block?

RE: Hollow CMU through bolt capacity

(OP)
I looked through all the TEK titles and skimmed some of the anchorage reports and I didn't find any reference to un-grouted through bolts.  I see this type of connection regularly in the field but don't have any idea how to define an allowable load.

Has anyone in here ever done this?

RE: Hollow CMU through bolt capacity

Why dont you want to use Hilti HY 20 for hollow concrete block? The tension and shear capacities are explicitly given in a Hilti product guide. I know some are concerned about using such anchors, but I use them all the time. They have been performing just fine.
