Can't see custom properties

Can't see custom properties

(OP)
So we finally updated to 2009 (SP 2.1) last week, and initially, everything seemed to be working.  I came into work after the weekend, and now whenever I try to look at the custom properties, I get nothing but problems.

It doesn't matter if it's in a part, assembly, or a drawing.  When I click file properties, the New, Open, Save, Undo, Rebuild, and Options buttons all become grayed out.  Also, under File, everything is grayed out, except for Page Setup and 3D Printing.  SolidWorks doesn't really freeze, as I can still manipulate views, but I can't edit the parts or assemblies at all, switch between windows, or open up drawings, etc.  The only thing I can do is kill SolidWorks with the task manager and reopen it.

There are a few other things that happen, but I think you get the drift.  Everyone else in the office can see the custom properties without problem.  I even tried logging in as a different user on my computer, and it worked fine.

Anybody experience this, or have any idea what may have caused it?  I use the custom properties on every part I work with.

Thank you in advance.

RE: Can't see custom properties

If other accounts allow SW to function correctly, the problem is probably caused by the permissions assigned to your user account. Compare the two accounts and adjust yours to match.

CBL,

Thanks for the quick response, as always.  I'm not exactly sure what it was, but based on your suggestion, I handed this one over to IT.  They removed my profile, then added it again and now everything (seemingly) is back to normal.

RE: Can't see custom properties

Problem: Loading Custom Properties to *.sldprt originally created  in a template "original.prtdot" that had no custom properties.

Cause: inexperience compounded by the "do it yesterday" syndrome.

Now, I have created a new template with 18 custom properties, but could not "substitute" the original.prtdot with the new one - complete cycle of frustrated attempts!  Hence, we have over 300 *sldprt parts without properties, their subassemblies and assemlies; yet, we got to generate the BOM, and other documentation!

Perhaps, there is a way to edit my original template and assign these properties, and thereby not bother with a new template?!  Either, or any other way, please, help.

Using SolidWorks 2008 running on Vista.

Thanks

RE: Can't see custom properties

You can use a simple macro that will cycle through your 300 parts and add properties. SW Task Scheduler can do it as well.
