Rollup displays

Rollup displays

(OP)
Hi guys

Im an intern with a company that nakes rollup displays that are pretty large. I have been charged with finding out what OSHA standards are of particular importance to the design of our product.

The design is at a pretty early stage right now, but it consists of a large motorized rollup LED screen (about 6 meters by 3 meters).

It's operation is similar to that of say a motorized rollup gate or screen door.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I could start looking?
Are there any other safety standard's I should be looking in to besides OSHA's?

Thank you.

RE: Rollup displays

Is this a stationary display?  Will it be where people might be exposed to it physically (other than the obvious sight)?  Will employees have to access it routinely?

OSHA standards only apply to worker exposures.  If the structure is stationary, it will have to comply with building code considerations.

Thank you Ron for your reply.

Workers will assemble and disassemble (after the event) the display on a stage. An operator will be able to raise and lower the display in situ once everything has been erected.

There will be stage hands and other personnel operating under or around the display (on the stage) once it has been set up.

RE: Rollup displays

Considering that, I would look at rigging design, scaffolding or staging platforms, highlift use, etc.

RE: Rollup displays

I agree with ron and would add if it is motorized then guarding any chains, wenches etc. The other obvious issue to look into during the erection and dismantling operation is also Lockout/Tagout or control of hazardous energy
