Concrete Beam with Steel Fibres

Concrete Beam with Steel Fibres

Concrete Beam with Steel Fibres

(OP)
Hi all,

How would one go about determining the shear capacity of a concrete beam while taking into consideration the contribution of steel fibres to the beam's shear capacity? I am completely stumped on this one as I have never used steel fibres before.

Clansman

If a builder has built a house for a man and has not made his work sound, and the house which he has built has fallen down and so caused the death of the householder, that builder shall be put to death." Code of Hammurabi, c.2040 B.C.

RE: Concrete Beam with Steel Fibres

ACI 318-08 allows steel fibers to replace shear reinforcing as long as f'c<6000psi, h is no greater than 24" and Vu is not greater than phi*2*SQRT(f'c)*b*d.  The steel fibers need to be at least 100lbs per cubic yard of concrete.  Be careful though, no testing has been done in concrete members exposed to chlorides.
