asme section viii div i code changes after 1979

(OP)
hi all,
i am working in a refinery which was shutdown in 1980 where i am working of refurbishment of the pressure vessles which almost everyone is manufactured in 1950 and 1960's what are the code changes in asme pressure vessel code since 1970 so that i can evaluate what new criteria the pressure vessels need to meet.
thank u.

Its ok to use capital letters in a professional forum. This isn't a text message.

What makes you think the vessels need to meet any new criteria?

And do you really think that the changes to the code can be summarized on an internet post? Have you seen a 1950's era Section VIII and compared it with a 2000's era Section VIII Div. 1? Slight change in volume of paper, and that's excluding the fact that allowable stress info was relocated into a different Section.

Please hire someone to do this work for you.  There are numerous consultants who specialize in this type of work.  As jte says, do you really think that the changes can be summarized in an internet post?

Restarting a refinery that has been mothballed for almost 30 years is a significant task, and will require the expertise of the world's foremost experts.  Find them and pay them what you believe their answer is worth.

RE: asme section viii div i code changes after 1979

While the greatest change in ASME VIII was the 3.5:1 Safety factor with additional impact testing regarding MDMT (my opinion only), it is mostly irrelavent to your evaluation. You need to evaluate the current fitness for service of the vessels and determine remedial work necessary to bring them to a condition of safe operation. This will involve a thorough document review and operating history review (good luck!!) of the involved vessels and a high degree of inspection both visual and volumetric to determine which vessels are salvagable and which must be scrapped.

RE: asme section viii div i code changes after 1979

first of all,do you know if these vessels are stamped ASME/NB?  If they are, my understanding is that refurbishment has to meet the codes to which they were built.
