Flanged Tube Seal ?

Flanged Tube Seal ?

Flanged Tube Seal ?

(OP)
Hello:

I am installing a silicone tube (about 10mm diameter) into a hole drilled into a flat piece of steel about 1mm thick. The tube is inserted into the hole and has a flange at the end so it doesn't fall through.

I am searching for a part that I can use to seal and hold the flanged tube in place against the steel wall. I can design my own part, but I'd rather just purchase a part already available.

The part would have to allow a water tight seal and would have to have a very low profile, 2 or 3mm tops. A push-in design or threaded design would be perfect. The part would not have to allow for a full cover opening, just enough for minor air flow to pass.

Could someone point me in the right direction? I can not find an existing product for this problem.

Thank you.

Drill a small than 10 mm at tank.
Or seal with SILICONE sealing compound

RE: Flanged Tube Seal ?

I've never used a swagelok fitting for silicone tubing, doubt the seal would "bite", the tube would crush first.  The only fittings I know will work with silicone tube are barbed fittings.

Swagelok doesn't appear to offer a solution to this problem.

However a single barbed fitting would probably work well, even if its made from plastic (able to withstand higher temperatures though).

The fitting could be pushed into the inside of the tube and the barb would hold it in place against the steel wall forming a seal.

Does anyone know of a company that offers small plastic barbed fittings that could solve this problem? The only products that I could find so far are double sided fittings.

check http://www.ark-plas.com/

amongst probably a hundred or so other suppliers.  I know the above makes a line of barbed tube fittings, some of which have pipe threads on the other end, or straight threads (e.g. 1/4" barb x 1/4-28 straight port fitting).  Obviously, straight threads may present sealing issues, which might be overcome with suitable effort on your part to provide an O-ring groove, or sealant...

The above typically can provide polypropylene or nylon fittings from stock, at very reasonable prices.  Materials more "special" than that may be tougher to find, you may have to special order the fittings, and pay thru the nose for a production run...

Or you could design one up in brass, and have a local machine shop whip a few out for you.
