Natural gas well

Natural gas well

Natural gas well

(OP)
My father in law has a gas well on his property and would like to use it as a fuel source for his pov.He contacted Fuelmaker regarding refueling equipment and at their request sent them a gas sample from the well for analysis. According to Fuelmaker the gas analyzed is not suitable with their equipment due to high nitrogen, propane and ethane levels.

Sample numbers:
Methane 81.47
Ethane 7.20
Propane 3.33
Nitrogen 6.62

What would be the most efficient and cost effective way to clean up the raw gas for use in a CNG vehicle?

Thank You

RE: Natural gas well

Looks like PSA is generally the better one for low quantities, but nothing is likely to be economical at the amount needed to fuel 1 vehicle, except blending it with a gas stream of higher purity.  Buy high quality bottled methene and blend it with gas from your well.

RE: Natural gas well

SAE has set the limits on CNG and LNG to have less than 1% ethane and less than .2% propane and heavier.  I don't remember the N2 limits, I'd guess less than 3%.  There is no simple system to remove all those and the water.  The gas coming from the well will be saturated with water, but the gas chomatagraph removes any water prior to allowing the sample to eneter the instrument.

If you took the water out, the gas would be perfectly fine if you set up the feul management system to recognize the composition.  I burn gas just like what you show in our 2000 HP gas engines with no problem.  But to sell commercially, you have to meet SAE specs. The LNG industry has approached SAE to raise the ethane to 3%.

I'd guess you also have 1.5% Butanes, .5% pentanes and .5% gasoline in the gas too.
