Is SolidWorks 2009 Slower to Save?

Is SolidWorks 2009 Slower to Save?

Is SolidWorks 2009 Slower to Save?

(OP)
I just switched to 2009 from 2007, and it seems significantly slower, maybe twice as long to save a large assembly.  Is this typical?  Any suggestions to improve performance?

The files are local.

HP xw4600
Core2 Duo E6850 3GHz
2.48 GB Ram
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700

Not using the /3GB switch, but I didn't need it with 2007.

Thanks,

Steve

Sorry, SP3, and the /3GB switch is in the boot.ini file.

RE: Is SolidWorks 2009 Slower to Save?

Do you do routine maintenance, i.e. clearing your temp files? Did you do an upgrade or a clean install?
If you don't clear out your temp files regularly, it'll affect performance. I'd suggest downloading ccleaner (props to CBL) and running it regularly.
If you didn't do a clean install, I'd do it now. If you don't know how, you can find the info here, about 4 paragraphs down.

RE: Is SolidWorks 2009 Slower to Save?

Is this the first time opening the files in SW2009 and doing a save operation?  If yes, then the save and open will be slower while SW does the conversion to a SW2009 ffile format.

After that there should be no real differance that I can see from using SW2009.

Your IT people haven't by chance made changes recently.  New Windows updates or other new software on your computer.

Cheers

Make sure your anti virus software is not scanning all SW docs.  I run 2009 at home, and find it as fast as 2007.

RE: Is SolidWorks 2009 Slower to Save?

I've heard the 64 bit version runs noticably better then the 32 bit. I only have 2006 but my step brother just got 2009 so I will check it out when I get a chance.
