What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

(OP)
I was looking at colleges and the majors and minors that are available and came up on ocean engineering and also marine engineering. What are the differences of these majors?

RE: What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

You'd have to look at the degree definitions in the various handbooks.  Off hand I would guess that marine was more related to equipment and ships than ocean engineering.

RE: What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

Ocean Engineering relates to the stresses induced on structures whether they be fixed or floating by the water or air ocean environment.

RE: What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

I think its all semantics anyway. I know folks with Ocean Engineering degrees who feel the need to prove they are as qualified as BSMEs engineering-wise and I'm a BSME who is currently designing a lot of subsea equipment. Stay flexible to maximize career opportunities.

RE: What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

I have a BS in Ocean Engineering. I am now checking aerospace drawings. Previously designing automotive switches, satellites, computers, x-ray equipment, toothbrushes ect. Oh and also submarines and ROV's. It is important what you learn in school, not what the degree is in. (But it is easier to understand what a ME degree is rather than a OE degree.)

RE: What is the difference of ocean engineering and marine engineering?

Ocean Engineering is like a Civil Engineering that it has focus on structures while Marine Engineering is more like a Mechanical Engineer that it has focus on Marine machinery.
