Asynchronous Generator

Asynchronous Generator

Asynchronous Generator

(OP)
Hello all,

One 20 years old three phase asynchronous generator: 135 KW 400 V 50 Hz 1565 RPM   ussed in winding generation was removed from service and now the owner  wants to use in South America so the machine will be run with a new gear box (The machine most generate at 60 Hz) , the costumer is interested in  to know pro and con,and they want to be absolute certain this old machine will not faill.

What do you think about it? s better rewind? could we offer a guarantee if the generator is not rewound?

Thanks for the inputs

Regards

Petronila

RE: Asynchronous Generator

At 60Hz, you expect machine to run at higher speed than 1565rpm and correspondingly the machine terminal voltage is bound to be higher than 400V. You may like to verify mechanical aspects (due to higher speed) and also the overfluxing in the generator and additional iron losses/heating etc.
The kW can maintain same at a lower output current and corrsponding lower copper losses.
