Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

(OP)
I am trying to import a .igs file into solidowrks, and then edit it.  However, whenever I open it, I get an error asking "Do you wish to import diagnostics on this part?"

If I hit yes, The part loads, but it doesn't look as it should.  On the left side is a bar with a listing of errors.  There is a button that says "attempt to heal all".  If I push it, it processes for a while, and is then able to fix only some of the errors.  If I right-click on the individual errors, and hit "Repair Face" or "Heal Gap" it is unable to fix it.

The interesting thing is, I can import into Pro/E wildfire4 with no problems, but am unable to edit the actual part in pro/e.

I really am not sure how to go from here.  if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

After opening in WF, can you export as parasolid and open in SW?

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

Can you zip and attach the original IGES file here?

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

I tried exporting to a parasolid from WF, and opening it in SW, but it doesn't seem to have worked.  When I open the parasolid file in SW, the tree on the left hand side shows there are two quilted surfaces, but they are nowhere to be seen in the workspace.  I made sure they weren't set to hidden, and I tried hitting the "zoom-to-fit" button and all the different shading options (shaded, wireframe, etc..) but nothing shows up.  It's as if it is a ghost or something.

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

As previously suggested, if you can, post the IGS file here for testing.

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

(OP)
I can upload the file itself, if you guys think it would help.

In the zip I put the igs file itself, as well as a pdf drawing of it.

What I am trying to do is close off the 2 small pear-shaped holes that are seen in the left view of the pdf drawing.

I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me out with this one.

superart,

I can help you to cleanup the data and make a parasolid file of the existing data.Is that O.K. for you?
Which version of SW are you using?

Thanks

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

Here is the file in parasolid.

When an igs file is translated, the way surfaces are created varies from system to system. Some of the surfaces may be missing while it is read in SW.

See how it opens in SW and do a diagnostics.

Hope this works.

Thanks

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

What program was the original file created in?

RE: Getting errors whyle trying to import igs file into solidowrks.

If you do not know what program the iges file was created in you can find out by opening the iges file in Notepad or Wordpad.  it is just a plain text file.

In the header of the iges file will be info on when, who and what created the iges file.

This also works for step files.

banghead   Thanks Anna ... Catia V5-R16.

superart ... any chance you could get a parasolid from the catia user who created the model.

Or better yet a native Catia file and see if you can get a FormatWorks demo or trial from http://www.capvidia.com/products/formatworks

The models posted above (and my testing on your file) all leave at least one problem face or edge. They could probably be fixed with more knowledge, time and patience.
