blocks and stuff

blocks and stuff

Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience using sketch blocks to display motion paths? I am experimenting now using cam paths to move levers and stuff. I've seen demos but never tried it. As I understand it, you can create a sketch, make it a block then create other blocks and relate them to each other to control their degrees of freedom. Any thoughts?

RE: blocks and stuff

Yep, I've used blocks in they way you present.  I believe there's a tutorial for jsut that situation.  Check the help.

Thanks for the tip. I am trying to create simple motions using cam profiles, driving lever arrangements as a quick way to display and interpret motions.
I have created a single block with two cam paths, each driving its own lever arrangment. I've used fit spline and simplify spline tools to ease the transitions and inflection points of the profiles and are still experimenting. I dont seem to be able to get smoth motions from the cam paths.  I would like to add two more profiles to the cam block with two more levers.
Anyone think I'm exceeding SW capability here?

RE: blocks and stuff

I would doubt that, but that might depend on your PC specs and performance.

Can you zip and post the relevant files so we can test on our machines?

RE: blocks and stuff

I'm doing that this very day.  Works fine, lasts long time.

Making a cam path from multiple segments is a bit tedious.  I use Fit Spline to create the path for the entire motion.

Take a look.

Tick
Fit Spline and Simplify Spline work easily enough but change the cam path, no? What tolerances are you using with these tools?

RE: blocks and stuff

Looks like you've got it right.  The cams are a bit of a mess, though, unless you are trying to get random bumpy motion.

The profiles are not random as they were created from the cam designer in SW. What do you mean by "bumpy"?

Is there a tool to smooth the curves more so than the simplify spline tool?
Thanks

RE: blocks and stuff

In my case, the changes from Fit Spline don't matter.
