What spec should I be using for stainless bolts equivalent to A325?

RE: Stainless Bolts

I don't believe you will find an equivalent.  Stainless steels don't have the yield or tensile strength of A325.  The Guide to Design Criteria for Bolted and Riveted Joints doesn't even mention stainless fasteners.  There is some good info on selection of material in the "Design Guidelines for the Selection and Use of Stainless Steel", at http://www.ssina.com/publications/design.html.  The last few pages address fasteners.  Apparently, the material is selected based on corrosion resistance rather than strength.

The specs that cover stainless bolts and nuts are A193, A194, A593 and A594.

Talk to your vendor??

RE: Stainless Bolts

HIGH STRENGTH ANCHOR RODS SHALL CONFORM AISI 431 AND ASTM A276 HAVING A MIN FY = 95 KSI (655 MPA) AND A UTS = 125 KSI (860 MPA) OR APPD EQ

This is what I use... don't know if you can get stronger stuff.

RE: Stainless Bolts

Over 18 years ago, I used A325 equivalent bolts. They do exists and they may not be exactly 100% the same properties.

Let me caution you that SS bolts will exhibit what is called "Stress Corrosion".

I will see if I can dig documentation from my "pack Rat" files.
