Toolbar question

How do you copy toolbar configurations from one computer  to another?  I remember reading something about it a while back, but I can't find it now.  I'm using NX3.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Toolbar question

After a normal exit from a session of NX, you will find at...

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Unigraphics Solutions\<NX Version>

...a file by the name of 'user.mtx'.  Just copy this file to any other user account (at the above location) and launch your NX session and it will inherit the settings of that original NX session.

Excellent!

One more question: Can I also transfer that .mtx file from a system running NX3 to a system running NX5?

Thanks again!
Al

RE: Toolbar question

Technically YES, since there is no difference in the format of the data, however there is always a chance that something has changed in terms of the content of a toolbar or a menu, but generally this will not cause any problems.

However, if your plans are to take a 'user.mtx' file from one NX 3 seat and move it to several NX 5 seats, I would just do it for one NX 5 seat first.  Open the session, check everything out to make sure that you are getting the menu and toolbar layout which you desire, then exit that session, and then copy the resulting 'user.mtx' file from this NX 5 session to all of the other NX 5 seats.

Okay, sounds good.  I was just going to do it on one system anyway.  I didn't want to take the time to recreate the toolbars if I could just move the file over.

Thanks again, you've been very helpful.

RE: Toolbar question

Generally speaking you'd try it because you can it costs nothing. Sometimes you get partial results but it is still better than nothing.

RE: Toolbar question

You may have realized this already, but you need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files first in order to find this file.

RE: Toolbar question

Yes, I transferred the file just fine, but like a fool I did it at the end of my shift, so I wasn't able to try it out.  I'll know next time I get on the system how it worked out.  On the plus side, I renamed the old file so I can reload it if things don't work out as planned.

Thanks, everyone!  Your advice has been most helpful.

Al

PS
I noticed that the only menu pick on the sheet metal toolbar is flange.  Were the other sheet metal features removed or did I miss something?
