anyone know the general estimating price per tonne for uk steel with simple connections.

I have 150UC struts about 6m long which are galvanised and have pinned connections each end.

RE: UK budget prices for steel

This can be a tricky one.  My first port of call for accurate information would be an up to date Spons guide in accordance with SMM7.

Second would be to check out any recent tenders that have come in, and call some local fabricators

We tend to use about £3000-5000 per tonne fabricated for offshore structures (depending on tonnage) but these are generally heavier that typical buildings, and involve a lot of welding.

The last info I have for buildings was from the start of 2006,  £1500-2000 per tonne for London, and £1200-1800 per tonne elsewhere.  If you could get your hands on the latest BCIS indexes you could bring these up to today.

Thanks ussuri,

Yes I am having problems dowloading the BCIS index as the website doesnt seem to be working. I will base my budget pice on £1800 per tonne as it is a small job outside london.

RE: UK budget prices for steel

Even if the website was working, you need to be a member to get the indices.  They are quite protective of them.  I guess if engineers had access to all the current cost information there would be no need for QS's smile.

I would recommend Spons, i used to find it really helpful and its certainly a lot more accurate.

If you've got an email address I can send the BERR Indices to March 2009, are they of use?
