Canadian Electrical Code Question

Canadian Electrical Code Question

Canadian Electrical Code Question

(OP)
Did not know where else to post this as there was no CEC in the engineering code section.

My question come with the spacing of equipment (rule 2-308 and 2-310)

The equipment I have (600V MCC) is rated at 1200A, according to 2-310(2) I need two exits or 1.5 meters.

My question comes with where I take this measurement from, I always thought it was from the open door of the equipment but I was told this is not the case, can anyone confirm where the measurement is taken from? I find the code book foggy at best when reading throught these rules.

Thanks

RE: Canadian Electrical Code Question

I've always taken it from the enclosure, with the door closed, unless you have draw out equipment.  If you are in serious doubt, or had inspection problems, talk to your AHJ for a ruling.

So if the equipment can be drawn out into a test posistion you take your measurement from that?

Does this included space required to actually remove the equipment or just to the drawn out posisiton?

RE: Canadian Electrical Code Question

Just the drawn out position to work on it live -- you need the clearance from the front of that.  I think of it as the space that you need to maneover in.

Some equipment will require additional clearances just to be able to remove parts, but I wouldn't think that would be a factor with an MCC.
