Instrument air copper piping - corroded

Instrument air copper piping - corroded

Instrument air copper piping - corroded

(OP)
The instrument piping is installed around cooling towers. It is copper and as you can see, it has a layer of green rust all over.
This installation is not older than 3 years.
What is the best way to protect this line? Paint? Wrap? Insulate?

Thanks

RE: Instrument air copper piping - corroded

Are you near the coast?
What chloride level do you run in the cooling towers?

I suggest that you fabricate replacement lines, either in Cu or in 316 SS.  And then paint them before installation.

Could you go to a high performance plastic for these lines? (remember to make sure that it is UV stable)

RE: Instrument air copper piping - corroded

i think that is normal taht copper exposed to the atmosphere will "corrode", in my opinon what is imporatnt is the "amount" of corrosion I mean if it's just the superificial  copper patina then is just an  aesthetic problem.
A good paint will protect your pipe.

Correct, it seems to me that the rust is copper patina.
This installation is not near the coast, but cooling towers environment is humid by nature.
If that is patina it should be protecting itself.
May be I should take one piece out and get a lab test...
