Gents,
Any suggestion for the acceptable maximum noise level in offshore engine room compartmen?????

RE: Acceptal noise level

Depends on what hearing protection you have issued, and the spectrum of the noise. If you don't know the answers to those two, 80 dBA or less.

RE: Acceptal noise level

If it is a place of work there should be regulations.  In the UK, hearing protection must be offered if the level is 80 dBA and enforced at 85 dBA.

Thanks Greg and Sompting guy,
According to IMO 468 ,if there is no man occupancy should be 110dba,otherwise 90dba.
Now can kindly let me get the equation to calculate if we use 50kg/m3 insulation, how about the result

Regards
Aung

RE: Acceptal noise level

Very complex question. Books like Harris, or Beranek, are a good introduction. If we've got an FAQ on books, read it.

Big clue 50 kg/m^3 insulation is not the right answer.

RE: Acceptal noise level

Sound attenuation is not an easily, nor correctly calculable parameter.  Testing is more accurate and easier.

Note that exposure levels might depend on a time weighted average for employment exposures, depending on the standards to which you are held.
