inactive working area/graphics window

inactive working area/graphics window

(OP)
Hi!
I have the following problem on nx6 and nx5, on the same computer:
when I start the programm, the tip windows is displayed regulary. But when I open a new file (model) the  main graphics window where normaly the cube is shown keeps being black. It is not accessable, I can´t draw anything.
What did I wrong on the installation? Did I forget some parts of the programm (I used the modified installation so perhaps I did not install the needed part) Is this possible?
Which part do I have to re-install?
Thanks a lot for your help!!!!!

Michael

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

All I can think of is that you don't have the graphics window maximized, but ti should automatically maximize when you start a new session.

You sound like you just installed a new version of the software.  If so, were you having this problem before, with your previous version of NX?

And why did you use the modified installation rather than the recommended?

Hi Mr. Baker,
Thanks for your answer, but I still have this Problem.
I did the modified installation because I didnt want to waste memory on my harddisk. So I dischecked the special programms for ship builing e.g.
Now I installed everything, so there is no dischecked component of NX. after a reboot of my system it didnt work as well.
I added a screenshot of my NX window.
The problem now is, that this black background doesnt disappear and I can´t draw or sketch anything, only the pointer is visible (thus it changes for sketching, turning, moving)
To me it seems to be a graphical problem, but where to look for and how to solve it?

Thank you a lot!

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

... looks to me that your hardware is not cerified for nx5 and higher, or your graphic driver / graphic driver layout is set to an other cad software. I had nearly the same problem with a wrong graphic driver.. for other reason to examine your problem upload your Logfile - Help - NX logfile .

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

... first of all legal licencse?
second the graphic card Intel 945GM is not support for NX

Yes its a legal licence.
But what is the reason that Intel 945GM doesnt support NX....
Isn´t it possible to deselect some features to decrease the load? Or to switch back to WinXP instead of Vista?

Thanks for your answers

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

Vista or XP won't matter. The Intel mobility graphics chips are not supported by NX. Always check the Certified Hardware page before buying a new computer. The chip doesn't support OpenGL graphics.

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

That's the lowest common denominator, support for OpenGL.  Without that, there is very little that we can do.

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

Just assuming that because you though you could run NX without a graphics card upgrade then you probably weren't hoping for much in the way of higher end graphics performance to begin with. In other words you just want to run some basic modelling with smallish assemblies. In that case most Nvidia GeForce cards will support OpenGL just fine and can be bought to suit desktops for a very reasonable price. Not all are certified but there are several that would work and stay under $200.

OK
Thanks a lot guys, I think I will have to abdicate working with NX.
Next time I buy a PC I´ll have to look more on the graphics.

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

If you install windows 7 on a different partition on your computer. So you can chose if you want to start vista or Windows 7 on startup. If so.. NX will probably work. (In Windows 7)

Windows 7 is free for another year.

RE: inactive working area/graphics window

Somebody tell me how Windows 7 would make any difference to the lack of OpenGL graphics support otherwise you'd be wasting your time wouldn't you?

I told about windows 7. because it worked for a buddy of me. He had exact same problem and that solved it.
