A simple to device to seal measurement devices in an open borehole

A simple to device to seal measurement devices in an open borehole

(OP)
I have a small device which measures the relative humidity and temperature. I am trying to build a simple device which I could put down a 6" open borehole and place several of the small measurement devices at various depths. I need to be able to seal each device over a 0.5m interval so that it only measures the RH and temp at a specific location. The borehole is 12m deep and I would like to place the device every 2 m.

As an example I was thinking of using a long PVC pipe and attaching a plug at various locations and essentially forcing the pipe with the plugs down the hole. However, I am not sure what to use for a plug. Any suggestions for a plug or a different solution all together are welcomed. Preferably it would be nice to build the entire system from things I could pick up from a local home renovation store such as Rona as I will be flying.

Go to the stores you are thinking of using and look through the pipe fittings. Pvc pipe in the 2 inch size may have what you need.

Actually, if I am not mistaken, there is a similar set-up with the Slope Indicator indicator piping (or the Canadian company RST) - where they have "valves" embedded in the pipe that will unlock when a device is lowered down the casing.  Then a probe is extruded and then water pressure measurements can be taken.  You might consider checking this out and seeing if it can be adapted to your needs.

If this is a temproary installation, you should be able to use inflatable sewer plugs
