Deal All,

We have a nozzle which frequently clogged up due to silica scale. We use softened water that passes through this nozzle. Are there any material as a replacement of existing nozzle (stainless steel) to protect silica scale to attached on the nozzle?

Better is to mitigate silica scaling issues. There seems to be a problem with your softner. Softners reduce both magnesium as well as dissolved silica. Check for water parameters upstream and downstream of the softners and go for necessary corrections.

How about adding a liner with an acceptable material inside the nozzle, and replace it when silica scale is at unacceptable level in case the softening process correction is not an option?

I am just brainstorming, it may not be acceptable due to some reasons in the process or complexity and size of the vessel.

I guess you need to come with details of the process if these can not help.

Magnesium silicate scaling is a problem even with PVC nozzles (observed in cooling towers). Only advantage is that you can remove it easily, by peeling off.

I would check the boiler for carry-over, check steam traps for proper operation. At around 400psi silica voltalizes at an increasing rate. The problem with softeners (sodium zeolite) is that they don't get rid of silica, only mixed bed demin systems and reverse osmosis due so properly.
