Modbus issues being interogated via windows XP home

Modbus issues being interogated via windows XP home

(OP)
Good morning. I have been trying to talk to a ABB acs 800 with a modbus card (reta 01 ) using a laptop with windows xp home edition as its operating system. I can with this lap top have full connectivity to our works intranet and also connect fully to the internet. I can also ping our servers . However when I connect the cable to the modbus card on the drive the icons in network connections tells me the cable is unplugged. I have tried different cables with the same result. I have also connected the card to a laptop with XP professional as its operating system and this connects immediatly. Is this a XP home edition problem , And has anyone experienced this before

RE: Modbus issues being interogated via windows XP home

Have you tried a crossover cable or routing the connection through a hub?

Is your wired port turned on and active?

Right click the wired ethernet port icon:

click on status to bring up the status screen

status screen:

If the port status is not 'connected', try "repair"

Many thanks for your suggestions . I have tried all of the suggestions above . I am going to upgrade to windows XP professional to see if this helps. Checking online suggests that there is less networking functionality with the home than the Professional editions.

Have you tried connecting the drive to a different computer or connecting your laptop to a different drive of the same type?  Maybe the Ethernet controller on the drive is shot.

RE: Modbus issues being interogated via windows XP home

I really doubt that XP Home can't manage a point to point TCP connection (although I've never had to try it)

Modbus TCP typically uses port 502.

Is port 502 blocked by Windows firewall?

Do you need to specfiy an exception ?
