Has anyone ever heard of a W14x17.2?

I have a set of building plans from 1968 and I believe one of the beams being called out is a W14x17.2.

I was wondering if this was a shape that used to be available or if anyone has an input on what is being called out please let me know.

I have attached the sheet where this beam is called out. It is the beam spanning from Grid 6 to Grid 9.

RE: Structural Steel Shapes

I can't take credit for this, although the drawing gave a big hint.  I found this on the internet:

According to page 1-4 of AISC's "Manual" (6th Edition), 14B17.2 is classified as a "light beam", produced by Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. From pages 1-22 & 1-23 for a designation 14x4B at 17.2 plf, section properties are listed as follows:

Ixx = 147.3, Sxx = 21.0, rx = 5.40, A = 5.05
Iyy = 2.65, Syy = 1.32, ry = 0.72
flange avg. thickness = 0.25"
web thickness = 0.1875"

Hope this helps,

When you are posting, under step 3 where it says attachment click on the link to the right that says "...or upload your file to ENGINEERING.com". From there you can upload any file from your computer.
