Surge arrester - Underground distribution Windfarm
Surge arrester - Underground distribution Windfarm
(OP)
Hello,
We are building an underground electrical network for a windfarm. The whole system have 5 circuit. One circuit can have as many as 21 turbines each with a transformer 34.5kV/575V. The circuit have many sub-circuits that are connected in parallel to the main circuit. Transformers are connected in series within the sub-circuit. As many as 10 transformers can be connected in series on a sub-circuit. My question is:
Is there a standard that we can rely on to determine if all transformers need surge arrester or only the one that are at the end of the line of sub-circuit?
Thanks,
Maxime Fleury

IEEE guide for the application of metal-oxide surge arresters foralternating-current systems
Abstract
The application of metal-oxide surge arresters to safeguard electric power equipment against the hazards of abnormally high voltage surges of various origins is covered. Step-by-step directions toward proper solutions of various applications are provided. In many cases, the prescribed steps are adequate. More complex and special solutions requiring study by experienced engineers are described, but specific solutions are not always given, The procedures are based on theoretical studies, test results, and experience,
