Weld Flange on OD of pipe??

Weld Flange on OD of pipe??

Weld Flange on OD of pipe??

(OP)
I need to weld a slip on flange about 18 inches from the end of a 6" schedule 40 pipe so that the flange can function as anchor. This is in a cryogenic ssytem. I have done the stress analyisis as far as the loads that I will get from pipe contraction. In my opinion, there should not be any issues with this. Should I be concerned about overheating and deformation due to the fact that I will have 2 fillet welds so close to each other. Teh heat load shouldn't be any different than the 2 fillet welds that a normal slip on flange would have. As a matter fo fact, I think that welding 18" from the end of the pipe would be better because ther is more of a heat sink.

Does anyone know if I would be violating any B31.3 requirments if I did this?

Thanks in advance
