Step Tread Attachment

Step Tread Attachment

What is the best and perhaps the most common way of attaching either limestone or precast concrete treads to the stairs' sheet metal treads.

The current stair structure is steel with limestone treads about 2" thick which have two 1/2" bolts embedded in them in such a way that they extend out about 1". The bolts go thru two holes in the metal stair and with two nuts from underneath, are secured. This has resulted in a lot of corrosion as the stairs are located near salt water and in the winter, the tenants use salt to met the snow/ice.

I am replacing everything and planning of sealing the edges with Sikaflex 1a. The treads are 12" wide about 2" thick and 4' long. Has anybody used any adhesives instead of bolts?

RE: Step Tread Attachment

May be you shall order custom made precast treats with embeded plates at the edges. The threads then can be connected to the steel framing through weld.

treads, treads, treads....repeat it 100 times!!!

The stairs will have solid steel treads and risers.

RE: Step Tread Attachment

I think the treads are best bolted to the supports.  If the structure is hot dipped galvanized, use hot dipped bolts.  Or stainless steel bolts.
