PWHT of P22 Piping Weld Joint

PWHT of P22 Piping Weld Joint

PWHT of P22 Piping Weld Joint

(OP)
Dear Forum,

We are fabricating a P 22 piping. In one of the weld joint which is dissimilar weld(P22 to SS304H), we observed that weld capp was very rough and was creating lot of confusion while interpreting its radiograph done after the PWHT.

It was smoothened with bit of grinding,but later felt that a capping is required on the ground portion having cavities and roughness.

We have planned for recapping the joint. Do we need to carry out the complete PWHT cycle again? or only pre heating and post heating should be OK because it ia local surface repair?

RE: PWHT of P22 Piping Weld Joint

ak1965;
Was the original weld joint subject to PWHT? If so, I would add the necessary filler metal as a repair and as long as the weld deposit thickness is 0.5" or less, no PWHT.

Just out of curosity, what filler metal did you use for the DMW? I hope you used Inconel.

thanks metengr

We used INCO 82 filler wire for welding.
