B31.3 code vs European DIN code
B31.3 code vs European DIN code
(OP)
Is there any relationship between B31.3 piping code and DIN standards in Europe? If a pipe is fabricated with respects to DIN standards is it qualifiable to B31.3? What aspects are transferable?

RE: B31.3 code vs European DIN code
I would forget about DIN codes in Europe. The Pressure Equipment Directive is now compulsary throughout the European Union and CEN are currently producing a set of harmonized standards to accompany this.
One of the developments for example has been to take the metric flanges prerviously to DIN standards and combine these in EN 1092. Although the dimensions are the same CEN has taken the opportunity to lower the allowable pressures at given temperatures and hence a PN16 flange may not necessarily be acceptable at 16 Bar for a given material.
The wall thicknesses on these flanges do not match scheduled pipe and it is more than likely the testing would have to conform to Section 7 of the Essential Safety Requirements of the directive.
Try this link to find out about the status of new CEN standards that are being (or have been) developed in place of DIN, BS, etc. standards.
