Careers in Metallurgy

(OP)
Sorry if this isn't the place to ask, but I just currently started going back to school and I'm considering going for metallurgy/material science.  But before I commit to anything, I want to be sure that there are good job opportunities for this field.  To be honest, I don't know any specific jobs that are out there requiring knowledge in this field.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for schools I can transfer to (I'm obtaining my Associate of Science), in North Carolina, feel free to list them.  Thanks.

RE: Careers in Metallurgy

One of the better materials engineering programs in the country is a NC State.  Excellent place to start.  If you want to specialize in metallurgy, do so at the graduate level.  The materials base degree with help you in almost anything from construction to bio-med.

RE: Careers in Metallurgy

Sir...

In my opinion, before you select a specialty, you have to think long and hard about where you would like to live.

Semiconductor engineers can pick between California Massachusetts, Texas etc.

Don't expect to get much of a job in New England as a mining specialist. Or if you love the southwest, don't become a "pulp and paper" engineer (but there are great opportunities in Maine, Wisconsin, Vermont, Georgia etc.

Civil & Structural engineers are needed all over the US

etc, etc etc...

My opinion only

Thanks guys.  I have a bio-med friend at NCState that has vouched for their material science.  It's good to hear confirmation and see that it would be a versatile degree.
