Force of hammer strikes
Force of hammer strikes
(OP)
I'm looking for information on the force produced by swinging a small hammer / mallet (3 pounds) a short distance, (5-10 inches). I haven't really been able to find any info on this. The object being striked moves about .5-1mm. So the hammer isn't really being swung, just tapped firmly.
I understand all the force equations, but am looking for information on about how fast a hammer is traveling at the end of the swing. I have been combing the web but have not found anything relevant. Thanks.
I've seen the equation F=W*D/d a couple times but this doesn't make sense to me. F= impact force, w=hammer weight, D=swing length, d= stopping distance. To me, this does not take into account how fast the swing is.
