PDMWorks Workgroup Folder setup/recommendations
PDMWorks Workgroup Folder setup/recommendations
(OP)
Hi All,
I am currently implementing PDMWorks Workgroup at our company. We use a non-descriptive 7 digit part number for all files.
We are a projects based company manufacturing bespoke equipment for food processing plants. Although the majority of the projects are bespoke we do use alot of common components (motors, brackets, bearings, fasteners, etc).
My question is in relation to how to best organise the files within PDMWorks itself. What sort of folder structure would you recommend or discourage?.
Thansk,
Declan.

RE: PDMWorks Workgroup Folder setup/recommendations
You might to look at past threads in this forum, because there's a lot of them.
here's a few of tips:
1)don't create a bunch of sub-project folders and have sub folders withing that. Yes do create project folders, but keep the sub folders at a minimum.
2)set up SWtoolbox or if you have your own, put it on a network drive. And then path to that network drive in the PDMadmin options
3)make sure your files have good naming conventions. Parts like, monday morning, bite me, part1234 are not SW or PDM practices.
I'm sure my friends here in this forum will add to the list
I hope this helps,

I would start with 3, Bespoke, Purchased or Hardware, and Released. Then add project folders as needed. Do not put everything in one large folder, makes for long searches. Then follow FAQ559-1227: PDM Rules to Live by:
