ASME Vessel in Western Australia

ASME Vessel in Western Australia

ASME Vessel in Western Australia

(OP)
We are planning to build vessel outside Australia & import it in Western Australia. Following are some of the doubts we have-

What are the requirements for import of an ASME U stamped pressure vessel to Western Australia?

If we already have ASME U stamp, do we still need to get the vessels design reviewed and certified by an Australian third party for compliance with AS 1210?

Do we need to  re-hydrotested the vessel  in the presence of a local accredited inspector (for certification)?

Your response with reference will be greatly appreciated.

Drummaker,
First of all, you should contact Worksafe in Perth to obtain the specific requirements for design and plant registration. They will provide also the list of approved design verifiers and the specific requirements the plant will have to comply with. This forum cannot provide you those specific requirements.
Yes, you will need to prove the compliance with AS 1210 some specific requirements, the like you mentioned hydrotest, in the presence of a local accredited inspector. Before the re-hydrotest, make sure the design calculations will prove that the vessel will not be over-stressed, otherwise will not be permitted to operate in Australia.  However, please note that in most of the cases where the ASME VIII design is complete and include detailed MAWP calculations, the hydrotest pressure is at or even higher than that required in AS 1210. Also, you can impose a higher hydrotest pressure in the original design if required for compliance with AS 1210. Be aware however, that compliance might also require the use reduced allowable stresses as per AS 1210, not as per ASME II Table D.
By the way, the U stamp doesn't have much meaning to the local authorities, except perhaps for the insurer.
Cheers,
