Cummins Diesel Generator

Cummins Diesel Generator

Guys,

Does anyone out there happen to have a resistance/temperature curve for a Cummins engine temperature transducer?
I also need a resistance/pressure curve for oil pressure.

Cummins are not being helpful and we have no accurate testing equipment on site to make the measurements ourselves.

Any help gratefully received....

RE: Cummins Diesel Generator

Isn't the oil pressure just a pressure switch set to something like 4 psi?

If it is broken, fix it.  If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

We that also, the transducer appears to be a 3 wire unit with a low pressure switch and an analogue variable resistance output and a common return lead.

RE: Cummins Diesel Generator

What is wrong with the ones on the engine?  If it is broke why not get a new one?

RE: Cummins Diesel Generator

I would think it might depend on what model engine you have also.  Are there any part numbers on the devices?

RE: Cummins Diesel Generator

If you want to check calibration, a pipe tee and a mechanical pressure gauge will test the whole system rather than just the sender which is a more meaningful test. If it is broken, don't agonize, just buy a new sender.

Thanks guys.
The transducers are not broken, we are changing the control system that utilises the analogue inputs for control purposes.
The guys "on site" unfortunately don't have the correct equipment to actually "map" the correct resistance/temp/pressure curves.

Information from a colleague that has come to light today, is that the transducers are not accurate enough for how we are using them (temperature based kW control of the engine), so the quickest and best solution was to exchange them for known 4-20mA output units.

Problem now solved, thank you all for the input, good advice is always appreciated.

Cheers,

Ian

RE: Cummins Diesel Generator

That sounds like a good solution.

RE: Cummins Diesel Generator

Be careful with the wiring of the new transducers. For analog signals use shielded pairs and ground them at one end, preferably at receiver end.
