Indirect fired heater/ firetube design
Indirect fired heater/ firetube design
(OP)
I am also looking for design information on firetube heaters. Not necessarily firetube boilers, but what are normally called indirect fired heaters. These use a firetube to heat water or glycol. A coil is suspended in the water or glycol and a second fluid is heated in the coil. I am chiefly looking for software but just any info on how to design the heater would help. API has a specification on it, 12K I believe, but it doesn't go into much detail on how to calculate the heat transfer.

sorry to bother you but I'm also looking for the same information!
thanks!

I have spent the last few years working at making thermal design methods available and understandable to new engineers. If you receive the formulas and correlations necessary to thermally rate this equipment and you provide it to me, I will put it in a JavaScript that anyone can use with their browser, and at no cost to anyone. I currently am working on the following sites:
Direct Fired Heater design at
http://www.HeaterDesign.com
Waste Heat Boiler and HRSG design at http://www.HRSGdesign.com
Steam Hydrocarbon Reformers at http://www.HeaterDesign.com/reformer/
Thermal Fluid Heaters at http://www.HeaterDesign.com/wintherm/
Thanks,
