Caustic+NGL filtration

Caustic+NGL filtration

(OP)
What size of micron size filter required to filter Caustic from NGL stream ? We have problem of Caustic carryover with NGL product. We use 10 micron size cartridge filter at downstream of Caustic+NGL tower to separate caustic particles. Design capacity for filter assembly is not a problem.

I need to know what type & size of filters other NGL treating facilities use and also please specify the supplier of the caustic filters? what type of filtration system should i require?

thanks in advance for your valuable thoughts!

RE: Caustic+NGL filtration

first, you can not "filter" out caustic.  You need to coalesce the caustic (water plus caustic)into bigger droplets that can seperated by gravity.  so your problem is not micron size, it's residence time and velocities issues.

I'd suggest meeting with your vendors and work on that end, not by changing micron size.  Here are quotes from such vendors
Coalescers
PECO's many styles of elements are designed to coalesce and remove aerosols from air or gas streams. Rated at 0.3 micron, these Coalescers are available in various lengths and gaskets for chemical compatibility. PECO features saturated depth Coalescers based upon PEACH® technology

Liquid-Liquid Separation
Phase Separator Elements separate and remove aqueous and non-aqueous droplets from liquids. Many models are available in various types of multiple layered construction including, lengths, micron ratings and endcaps.

Thanks dcasto,

I agree with you. Our normal flowrate is 125 gpm and design capacity of filters are 175 gpm. Is oversize filters create problem of coalescing? We have filters in series. first prefilter is 10 micron and second filter is 5 micron.
