what's the difference between aspen one and hysys for hydrocarbon seperation simulations? i heard something about differences in binary coefficients. why is hysys and pro 2 the benchmark for refineries and why is aspen one not?

RE: hysys vs aspen one

Hysys, ProII, and Aspen all have strengths and weaknesses. I am not technical enough to be able to provide a good analysis of the details. To the best of my knowledge, Aspen is widely used for chemicals, electrolytes, and solids. ProII seems to be the simulator of choice for refinery applications, though Hysys certainly has some following here. Hysys seems to be preferred for oil and gas work. This is all very general and no doubt some will disagree with these generalizations, but this fits with what I've seen and heard.

RE: hysys vs aspen one

there is a seperate forum for this under engineering computer programs, that may get another audience

RE: hysys vs aspen one

i want to know where is this seperate forum?my friend upstaire?

RE: hysys vs aspen one

I think its historic. Each simulator may have grown out of a specific market segment and had different marketing strategies.

In Denamrk where im from Hypotec was first in offering free (or cheap) licenses to the technical univercity so that the engineers to be was trained in using their software. Even though most of us could easily switch given the choise we would recommended HYSYS (or HYSIM as it was called back then smile ).

Best regards

Morten

RE: hysys vs aspen one

it also depents on the choice of the model
