Anticorrosion coating for bends

Anticorrosion coating for bends

Hi,
I have to select an anticorrosion coating for the bends of a 16" offshore pipeline with a design temperature of 35°C. Ambient temperature is 15°C. Design life 50 years.

Designer propose a polyurethane coating system (airlees spray applied) with 5 mm of thickness.
Wath is the best choice between polyurethane coating and epoxy coating?

Is this thickness acceptable?

Thx

RE: Anticorrosion coating for bends

Polyurethane can be UV-resistant, while epoxy is not.  So, if the parts will see extended sunlight exposure, polyurethane is a better choice.

Actually, using both is an excellent choice and widely used.  The epoxy has excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance and is used as a basecoat, and the polyurethane provides UV resistance when used as a topcoat.

OK,

In case the application is a system with polyurethane only (solvent-free thermosetting resin, applied by airless spray)is it possible to reach a thickness of 5 mm?

Some product data sheets give a max thickness of 3 mm.
