stanislasdz, would recommend Machinery's Handbook, or handbooks from DoAll, etc.

add to that the blade count in the saw blade - teeth per inch.  You want to have at least 3 blade teeth within the cross-section of what you are cutting, so if you're cutting a 1/4 inch diameter rod, you want at least 12 teeth per inch in the blade.

Also depends on what type of "steel" your cutting. Blade technology and tooth geometry has come a long way in recent years. I do second what Crypad suggested, very good machines, lubricants and blade development.

Typically production band sawing is done with highly sulfurized and chlorinated semi synthetic or surface active coolants at relatively high 10% + concentration  --- this seems to give a good balance between improved blade life, cutting speed and coolant carry off
