water tank overflowing

water tank overflowing

water tank overflowing

(OP)
Problem solved on water tank overflowing.  Water operator wants a system to  remotely alert him when overflows occur.
Mercoids don't shutoff well pump sometimes especially at times of extreme temperature change.  So he wants to be alerted overflows through his cell phone.  thanx in advance waterdog1

RE: water tank overflowing

SMS subroutine added into the SCADA system should be possible.

"Pumping accounts for 20% of the world's energy used by electric motors and 25-50% of the total electrical energy usage in certain industrial facilities."-DOE statistic (Note: Make that 99% for pipeline companies) http://virtualpipeline.spaces.live.com/

RE: water tank overflowing

A  pressure switch at the base of the tank with an alarm tied into the SCADA will be the least expensive option.

RE: water tank overflowing

Or a light on a buoy in the tank.  When he can see the light at the top of the tank, its almost full.

Just depends on how "remote" remote is.

I note the date right now just turned to 1 April.

RE: water tank overflowing

As Bimr stated, unless you have extra setpoints in your well controls or want a standalone alarm, a pressure switch is probably your cheapest option.  If you don't have scada, tie it into an autodialer that will call a programmed phone number(s) (the operators) with an alarm message.

A slick pressure switch we've used on a couple projects is "ifm-efector Electronic Pressure Switch" which is basically a pressure transducer that will allow you to set your level electronically and not have to mess with a trial and error set screw.  This switch is in the USA Bluebook and is under $400.

RE: water tank overflowing

I've seen pressure switches (Mercoids) where the wetted internals or the impulse line has frozen in the winter time.  Once it was indoors, but someone left the garage/shipping door partly open and the switch, being close to the ground, froze up.

Thought I'd mention it because the OP said "temperature extremes".

Using a better pressure switch won't help if the impulse line or the wetted internals of the switch are frozen.
