Which Maths software to go for ?

Which Maths software to go for ?

Which Maths software to go for ?

(OP)
Hi

For numerical models like of CFD, stress etc. Which maths software is best to code on (MATLAB, MAPLE or MATHEMATICA)..
For any Finite method like FEA, FVM etc.

Also can anybody describe what is the major difference between these three maths softwares ...

Thanks

RE: Which Maths software to go for ?

So far as I know most people use matlab for this, of those three alternatives. I do not know maple at all, and it sounds a little bit unlike a 'typical' mathematica problem.

Incidentally OpenFEM is a fully functional FEA solver/postprocessor written for Matlab, that may save you some time.

Cheers

Thanks fr the tip m8 ..i want to know how to install OPENFEM i mean wht is the full package of it. bcoz on its website it saying something about a separate mesher and not easily defined installation instructions.. guide plz

RE: Which Maths software to go for ?

I don't do a lot of F.E. but I do a lot in Matlab and Maple.  My impression is Matlab is better for number crunching and is compatible with a lot of different 3rd party toolboxes.   What FE I have done so far was electromagnetic and used "FEMM" by David Meeker which interfaces very nicely with Matlab.

I just looked at OpenFem.  See section 4.1.6 for some discussion of interfacing with a free mesher:
