Structural Angle Iron Question

Structural Angle Iron Question

Structural Angle Iron Question

(OP)
I'm modeling some things in AutoCAD and I want to make sure I don't have any interferences.  I want to use 3x3x3/8 structural angle iron and I've been trying to find out what the internal radius is.  Any ideas?

RE: Structural Angle Iron Question

the steel manual only gives you the k distance.  k is the distance from the edge to the web when it starts to curve.  According to the manual k = .75".  That means the inside radius is probably 3/4 - 3/8 = 3/8 "

Never, but never question engineer's judgement

RE: Structural Angle Iron Question

I use 5/16" as the inside corner radius.  Don't forget the radii on the legs also!

Thanks.  I'm going to go with 3/8" and design the interference to that and if it is 5/16" I'll be covered.  I appreciate the help.

RE: Structural Angle Iron Question

I believe you can get an AutoCAD subroutine with all the shapes online.

RE: Structural Angle Iron Question

Yes I believe there are a few programs out there with all of the AISC shapes & properties for AutoCAD.  We use a program called SteelPLUS, but I'm sure there are others.

As far as the internal radius, Steelplus shows it to be 5/16"

RE: Structural Angle Iron Question

... and 3/16" for the radii on the legs.
