ISA S71.04
ISA S71.04
(OP)
Hi
I/O buildings shall be maintained at a G1 severity level as per ISA S71.04
I read this sentence in the specification of a project.I don't know what is exactly meant by this! How is this tested? Is it a certification for the equipments in the building, or it is a test on the environment inside the I/O building?
Any help please.

ISA-S71.04 Environmental Conditions for Process Measurement and Control Systems: Airborne Contaminants
"Scope 2.1
This standard covers airborne contaminants and biological influences that affect industrial process measurement and control equipment. Specifications for other environmental conditions, including nuclear radiation and hazardous atmospheres, are beyond the scope of this standard."
A G1 severity level is at the low end where corrosion is not likely (due to environmental controls); the scale escalates to G3 where corrosion is likely and controls & instrumentation have to take that into account; or GX where corrosion is so severe that specs are a "matter of negotiation".
Any ISA member has unlimited "ISA Standards" download priveleges (does not apply to joint standards with other committees/agencies)
RE: ISA S71.04
How do we maintain a building at G1 level?
Does this mean that we have to take the G1 severity level into consideration while designing the HVAC system?
Or we need to make sure that the G1 is a feature of the equipment(including A/C unit) used in the project?or something else?
